Malcolm Goes Cottaging!

What is it about South Tyneside politicians and Scotland?

Mr Monkey appreciates many South Tynesiders are proud of their Scottish heritage but it seems that the lure of the heather, the glens and lochs, a wee dram, the pipes and the haggis and in Iain Malcolm’s case men in skirts kilts seems too strong to resist, especially for our politicians.

Mr Monkey wonders whether this fetish for men in kilts might explain councillor McCabe’s promotion under Iain Malcolm’s leadership. But if I were councillor McCabe I’d think twice about wearing my kilt when the Laird of the Chamber is about – at the very least I’d cross my legs so the he couldn’t take a sneaky peek up my kilt!

Following hot on the heels of The King of Sleaze, Tory Boy David Potts’s Scottish adventure, it seems that Labour councillor Iain Malcolm thinks he can become a laird. Mr Monkey reckons this explains why he’s bought a Scottish hideaway in Hawick (pronounced Hoick). This allows him to spend some of his weekends at his rural cottage and Mr Monkey reckons he knows what the dirty bastard will be doing!

Mr Monkey has got a few weekends to spare now that the shorter days are here and reckons it’s time he did some digging exploring north of the border – you never know who or what might turn up!

Jim Says It’s Not A Done Deal – Is He Lying?

'Cut the crap and get a haircut'

'Cut the crap and get a haircut Jim'

Labour Councillor Jim Foreman, the authority’s lead member for children and young people, has written an open letter in the Gazette to quell families’ fears, and explain how the process of shutting Bamburgh, Margaret Sutton, Epinay, Oakleigh Gardens and Greenfields Special Needs schools will work. CLICK HERE for details

The crux of the matter is that council officers, with the support of Jim and his Labour colleagues, want to close 5 special needs schools in order to force integrate a significant number of children into mainstream education and build 2 new schools for the those that cannot be forced integrated.

It’s purely a coincidence then, that the schools they want to close have a significant cash value and if both the buildings and associated land could be sold for housing, millions of pounds will be available to Jim and his mates to ‘bribe’ their way out of the shit they are likely to face in the next local elections in 2010.

As for the letter, howay Jim, everyone who knows you, knows full well that you can’t even spell haircut and judging by your picture it would seem you don’t even know what the word means!

Cut the crap, you’re incapable of even joining up the dots in a kiddies colouring book so there’s not a snowball’s chance in hell that you wrote this letter.

If Mr Monkey was a gambler, he would put all his money on Peter Cutts, the council’s Head of Social Inclusion and Achievement being Councillor Foreman’s ghost writer!

South Tyneside Set For Another Hotel

Seems South Tyneside Council’s obsession for hotels is set to continue.

Mr Monkey has learned that senior councillors and officers are holding secret discussions with potential developers who would like to build on Harton Staithes.

This last remaining green space in South Shields Town Centre is about to disappear forever after councillors approved a strategic partnership with BT. The deal calls for BT to build a business centre on Harton Staithes after the council failed to evict all it’s tenants in Wouldhalve House and the retail units below.

Like Garlands, BT wanted a riverside location and as usual the council agreed to bend over and let big business shaft the people of the borough yet again. They even voluntered to apply the lube to make things as easy as possible!

Mr Monkey can confirm that 5 developers have been shortlisted from a list of 16 and that detailed discussions are now underway. The development brief not only includes a mega business centre for BT but it also now includes a hotel and several other commercial units.

Although the council and One North East are not in a position to confirm who their preferred developer is, allegedly, Mr Monkey predicts that it is likely to be the Esh Group who have suddenly appeared on the scene.

Mr Monkey wonders what Durham Estates and Tavistock Leisure think about the council’s latest hotel plans? This time last year they were flavour of the month when they were appointed preferred developers for the Gypsies Green Stadium hotel and conference centre.

Unfortunately they didn’t count on the level of opposition which ultimately led to one of Council Leader, Iain Malcolm’s ward colleagues losing his seat and Mr Monkey has learned that he is concerned that history may repeat itself.

Mr Monkey believes Iain Malcolm’s sudden lack of interest in Gypsies Green in favour of another hotel located on the riverside has more to do with self interest than the interests of the people of South Tyneside and if his former associates at Durham Estates fall by the wayside .. so be it!
